Step by Step

Today, as I’m doing my Sabbath worship and study, I came across some material as I’m reading John N. Loughborough’s, “The Great Second Advent Movement”, page 12:

“We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us, and His teaching in our past history.” –Life Sketches, p. 196

“Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.” Proverbs 22:28 (KJV)

I have been contemplating what is happening in the present Seventh Day Adventist Movement, world events and competing doctrines for our time and it appears, to me, the quotation taken from “Life Sketches” is a primary key in order to find stability for how we are walking today.  There have been moments, no doubt I’m sure you have encountered, where you didn’t know where you would go from a crossroads experience.  You wished someone would tell you, indicate to you, which path to travel.  You wanted someone else to make the decision for whatever reason.  Perhaps the greatest one was, if you failed, you did not want it to be “your” failure, but the truth of the matter is, it is “your” journey, so regardless if the direction was yours or somebody else, it would be “you” who would experience the consequence.

Of recent, I have encountered people who have asked me, “What shall I do?”  As others before me, now I am tasked for being that direction post for someone else.  I take the question and answer very seriously, but the truth remain, it is YOUR journey, you and God, and the key to remember when you encounter additional junctures of life’s direction, the key, THE KEY, is to remember how He has brought you thus far.  Step by Step.

If I, and this is my help, if I remember how I was raised, going from “step by step”, from the memory of someone my elder who can recount how I began my first steps as an infant, it is no different than my elementary years, high school years, young adult years, adult years and now as I’m setting my sights on my senior years, it is the same walk, the journey done by those before us, with us and those following us, and there are plenty of guide marks if, and I repeat, IF, we stop and think back how He has guided us, the lessons learned along the way, you will come to the realization that famous text:

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.” Romans 8:28 (KJV)

In following along this path it is tantamount you also remember NOT to remove those posts of guidance and venture in a direction which is not sanctioned by Holy Scripture.  Our fathers have already done this and learned the folly (mistake) of doing so and were able to make it back safely, so why is it necessary for us to attempt the same?  You will not be given this “new light” which is totally off the already beaten path, the old tried and true, to lead others where you’re headed to a total and absolute abyss of stupidity and death.  Hopefully and finally it will be only you who and you not responsible for the taking of others with you, but they will follow!  They will follow because they’re not able to recount their own journey and learned from their mistakes and those of their elders, and looking for someone else to make the decision because they’re not wanting, or able, to make it for themselves.

Daily I read posts from those outside our great faith as well as those inside and many of the posts are all headed toward that abyss I mentioned earlier and it is indicative they’ve lost sight of the foundational landmarks which indicates which is God’s and which is that other guy.  Everybody has a story to tell regarding their journey, but many are too shy, scared or plain coward to admit they don’t know and so they speak as if they know all things, some so charismatic,  have a great following, proving the “blind do lead the blind”.

Friends, as we continue during this election year (U.S. & Philippines), and as we go forward from this point in our religious experience there will be more news ahead which will either confuse you or confirm you in what is the tried and true.  There will be additional information given supposedly inspired which will sound convincing and absolute, but I warn you, keep to the landmarks already given.  Remember it is a “step by step” process, so remember yours and go slowly so if you do stray it won’t take much to find where you strayed and get back on track.
