SABBATH AND BONDAGE

“I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.” Ex 20:2 (KJV)

Many think the Sabbath day and its observance indicates a form of being in “bondage” to old laws and requirements, when in all actuality, it is the freedom of not being in bondage which allows us to keep and observe the Sabbath freely and in good conscience.

When you go back to the Bible story of the Children of Israel, you learn their captivity had taken them from the worship of the true God and paganism infiltrated their beliefs because of their involvement with a people, the Egyptians, who served many gods and more specifically, the greatest of all gods, the sun.  Today, in our so-called modern society and Christianity, the greater amount are still serving the “sun” (worship on Sunday) and do not recognize themselves as being the “spiritual Egypt” today.  You can be either in one of two groups:  “spiritual Israel” (seventh day Sabbathkeeping) or “spiritual Egypt” (first day Sundaykeeping).

Let’s consider the two opposing groups.

Seventh day Sabbath: (1) We get our “command” to do this in pleasing God.  (2) It is Scriptural.  (3) There is freedom in following what God instructs us.  (4) Is the means whereby God’s people are sanctified and made holy, (5) Will be the key to enter into Heaven and eat from the Tree of Life.

First day Sunday:  (1) Get their “command” by papal and civil leaders.  (2) Is founded in ancient church father’ writings which often are false. (3) Held in bondage by custom and tradition. (4) Receives the mark of the beast and are eventually lost, (5) Will be prevented from experiencing Heaven and eternal life.

The Bible always separates into two groups and not three.  There are those who will do as God commands and those who refuse to keep God’s commands.  Many would like to think there are three: (1) Commandment keepers, (2) Grace observers, and (3) The world.  Sadly, in order to receive “grace”, you must first have been a keeping of God’s Ten Commandments, for when you break the Law, then “grace” is applied.  However, if you do not observe the Law of God, there is no need for grace and you are classified as being a part of the “world” which did not believe anyway!

No, my friends, I’m not under any bondage because I keep God’s Law.  It is called the “Law of Liberty” which makes me free, wonderfully free, to live within the parameters of God’s guidance and Who would know what is best for me, and you, anyway?
