I didn’t release until now the importance of salt insofar as the Gospel is concerned.  Sure, Christ said,

“Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.” Mark 9:50 (KJV)

Paul said,

“Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.” Col 4:6 (KJV)

But I hadn’t realized God told Moses,

“And every oblation of thy meat offering shalt thou season with salt; neither shalt thou suffer the salt of the covenant of thy God to be lacking from thy meat offering: with all thine offerings thou shalt offer salt.” Lev 2:13 (KJV)

So, you can see the purpose of salt was very important as it relates to the Gospel.  The sacrifice wherein we find our salvation had to be salted.  The message we have to deliver to the world must be seasoned by our experience and the experience of Christ and like salt, which is small, yet effects everything around it.  My memory goes back to this time of year when we spread salt to melt the ice and snow.  Notice salt also spreads about and whitens the leather of your boot or shoe.  It affects everything.

I’ve always wondered about Lot’s wife.  This is the first time we come across the word, “salt”, and I’ve often wondered why salt?  Why not dung, or some other mineral than salt?  God never waste anything so could it be she turned into a “memorial” for spreading about what happens when we’re not able to look forward, where the Gospel leads, but when we’re lost to ourselves and our lusts for what remains behind?  Nonetheless, salt here would still be a good thing for those who are paying attention to Truth.

Sadly, even in dietary concerns, there is salt which is not healthy.  While it is important as a mineral, too much can be deadly.  In the case of spiritual matters, while the Gospel is likened to salt, there are many who are using unhealthy salt, which is spreading and many gobble it up believing it is tasty and satisfying but it will destroy you in the end.

Be careful of the salt which you are using.  Just as God uses it to the betterment of His Gospel, there are many other false religions which spread enough of it around making you think it is Truth!
