OUR DAY OF ATONEMENT

For those who refuse to spend time in reading the Old Testament and the truths which are given for our example, it will be overlooked, the feasts, involving the earthly Sanctuary, which Moses was instructed to make after being shown the heavenly Sanctuary.  By studying what took place—then, helps us to understand what is taking place—now.  It was at this time, the Day of Atonement, when all the people stood around the Sanctuary, examining their lives, confessing their sin, while the High Priest would enter the Most Holy Place, going about his duty in cleansing what had been taking place all year round.  It was a joyous occasion when he was finally seen coming into the outer court where all the people waited being assured their sin had been forgiven.

This is where we are in our religious experience.  This is “our” Day of Atonement, the final event which precipitates the coming of the Lord.  Each of the seven feasts marks a period of the Gospel.  Unfortunately for the majority, they’re still focused on what took place in the “outer court” where the Lamb, our Savior, was slain; but, this does not constitute the end!  There was still a much more important work which was to take place.  You see, Jesus being slain, for you and me, was only the beginning of this great work.  This is the penalty phase but it did not constitute who would be freed from the penalty of death.  Surely, He died for all mankind, but not all mankind would be accepting of this gift, therefore no penalty was paid for them!  The work which took place in the Holy Place during the majority of the year would then continue, and then that one day, the Day of Atonement, would finalize the entire “Gospel” period, from what occurred in the outer court to the Most Holy Place, and now we fully understand where we are in this earth’s history, this Gospel dispensation.

Jesus is now performing the work of the High Priest.  He is presenting to the Father the examining of our lives, our record, to determine if we will be the recipient of the great price paid for our sin.  However, the problem with our time, not many of us realize this is our time, too, to be examining our lives, confessing our sins, and getting right with God by repenting and doing what He has asked us to do.  We do not know when our name will come up and the book which contains all we have been is opened.  We do not know if our name will be blotted out of the Book of Life except if we understand what is taking place, right now.  Ohhhh, my friends, it is much more than what occurred on Calvary for that was only the beginning.

When Jesus is finished in the Heavenly Sanctuary He will speak these words found in Revelation:

“He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still. And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” Rev 22:11-12 (KJV)

For many during the ancient time, seeing the High Priest was not a good experience, for they were separated from the camp of Israel forever.  They failed and were not adjoined to God’s people.  When Christ finishes His work and return for His people, it will be a sad day because many have lived within the camp (church), but have not received His message, the “full” Gospel, and would have been accounted worthy of salvation of having their penalty paid and now must pay their own debt.

Recognize, where we are in time and take it seriously, very seriously.
