There is a new strain of believers who have mistaken what this means.  For clarification, these are the words which I read, this morning, while having my morning’s devotion:

“The Heart of God’s Last Message

“Several have written to me, inquiring if the message of justification by faith is the third angel’s message, and I have answered, “It is the third angel’s message in verity.”–1SM 372 (1890).

“This message was to bring more prominently before the world the uplifted Saviour, the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. It presented justification through faith in the Surety; it invited the people to receive the righteousness of Christ, which is made manifest in obedience to all the Commandments of God.”

It is now being perceived, by an act of the enemy, “Justification by Faith” is only love in action and belief in Christ.  While this may sound wonderful, it is partially true, and not the total aspect of what it means.  Read the quotation again.

Now, for those who are not quite certain what the third angel’s message is, especially for those Adventist who are in nominal (Sunday-keeping) churches, allow me to post it here:

“And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand, The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb: And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” Rev 14:9-12 (KJV)

In totality, “Justification by Faith” is not ONLY what we believe and have love but it also by what we DO insofar as keeping God’s Commandments.  I’m hearing it said, over and over again, keeping God’s Ten Commandments is not Justification by Faith when the Spirit of Prophecy clearly states it is totality of the third angel’s message, and does not the third angel’s message indicate keeping the Commandments is a directive?  It goes hand in hand.  You cannot have “Justification by Faith” if you are not keeping the Ten Commandments.  There is no other way.  Even the Bible says the devils believed, but this does not save them, so how can you expect any different?

Will keeping the Ten Commandments save you?  Not if you don’t have love, in fact, you cannot keep the Commandments unless you have love, as the rich young ruler found out.  Our faith and salvation is not the result of going to a buffet and picking and choosing upon what you will ingest.  You have to have everything on the menu, together, as part of your diet in order to benefit from the total offering God is giving us.  God made it quite clear when He said, “If you love Me, keep My Commandments.”  Therein we see “love” and “keeping the Commandments” combined for action toward others, and this, my friends, is a quick and non-convoluted understanding of “Justification by Faith”.
