There is nothing we have of our own selves, but sin.

“Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.” Ex 20:4-6 (KJV)

So, where do holidays come from?  Are they from God or man, via the enemy?  Should we do honor to those these holidays propose are done honor unto?  For example, do we honor our mothers and fathers on these particular days as given to us by man, or by God’s Commandment?  What is the truth behind what it is we do?  Why do we do what we do?  How what we do today will be carried forward into Heaven or the earth made anew?  What does the Bible say, if anything, about what it is we do?  If it (Bible) is silent, does this grant us favor to do what cannot be established?  Or, is it possible the Bible has given an answer but because of our own ego, pride and inability to be convicted, we go forth doing what we will fully justifying our actions when challenged?

Let me make this clear:  I study for Roy.  Because I am “called” to express what I have received, through writing, I do so.  It is not my purpose to convince anyone but to share what I have gleaned, because I am held accountable to do so.  I work for God, not you.  God, in turn, works for you, and may use me, for you, but it is my sole purpose for the benefit of myself, then for others.

While I am and have been convinced since 1977, I would have no further involvement with holidays such as Christmas, Easter, St. Valentines, other holidays have been shown to me later, such as New Years, and now Mother & Father’s Day have been thrown into the mix.  The standard I hold high is that I cannot be convinced to EVER keep Sunday as God’s day of rest, yet, will I fall victim to upholding any other day as satan’s infiltration into my life?

I believe God has fully given us instruction regarding “holidays” in the Second Commandment.  We look at “images” as being idols what we see in Catholic Churches, but we, even as Adventist, have some “images” and “idols” we treasure and hold dear within our heart.  I believe these are holidays.  These are our “graven” images we have accepted, not originated, but have accepted and they make us just as guilty as those we say we would never do.

What may appear to be done in innocence, may be truly accomplished in ignorance.  We may approach what we don’t understand by claiming our intention and motivation, but will this absolve us from apparent sin?  We know and can state fully why Sunday worship is a sin.  We also know soon it will be made apparent to those who are sinning and they will have to make a choice regarding it.  How about us?  What will be made known unto us as apparent sin and how will we choose to deal with it?  Will the argument be made, by the courts during the “Time of Trouble”, “You stood for keeping the seventh day Sabbath, against the law of the land, but you upheld Christmas, Easter which came from the same source!”

The same source.  What is that “same source”?

We know prior to “papal” Rome coming into existence it was “pagan” Rome.  Rome had two phases as indicated by the “legs” which are two of the image Daniel saw and prophesied.  From the Greek Empire came many pagan practices which were adapted into “Greco-Roman’s” history, from which ALL of our holidays resulted.  Let me state it again, ALL, of our holidays resulted.  Show me in Scripture where any birthdays were celebrated which did not result in someone’s death?  With all the antediluvians having lived such long periods, are there any records of them celebrating the year of their birth?  Or the many years of their lives on an annual basis?  There are none.  So, why do we?  Especially since (1) we live such short lives as compared to them, and (2) It would seem foolish for us to say, later, in the earth made new, “I am now 58,238,293,107,392… years old!  Methuselah was the longest living man who died and yet we do not hear one iota of him celebrating his birth or years lived, in Scripture or any other resource, at least none I have come in contact with, so why do you do it today?

The issue which prompted the writing of this post is in regards of the holiday just past:  “Mother’s Day”.  Father’s Day is soon to come, so let’s get some understanding regarding it.  How many of you will neglect to find truth and will continue celebrating your pagan beliefs, covered in Adventism?  How many of you will make the excuse, “Gee, is there not anything we can recognize or celebrate?”  Yes, there is one, “Remember the Sabbath day to keep IT holy…” excluding all others.  Why do we need to have holidays at all?  Other than getting off work, I cannot see any reasonable purpose for keeping them.  God gave us this Commandment:

“Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee.” Ex 20:12 (KJV)

Did He state “when” this should be done?  How it should be done?  Or, IF it should be done?  It seems rather funny to me, while we do this “one” day, we’re looking for the “…that thy days may be long…”, so we’ll give one day a year for longer days.  It’s all about “us”, the way we are doing it and not the true intent God meant when He gave us the Commandment.  We have made it into an idol, an “image” if you will by the acts we do, like the Catholics making penance for revealed sin.  “Flowers, candy, meals, etc.” continuing to gratifying the “mothers and fathers” of ancient Greece, having Christianize mythology and expect God to be pleased with our efforts!

While I intend to study this further, I suggest you do the same.  Why keep practicing sin when we can begin to practice truth and be saved by doing so?
