A friend of mine, when wanting to discuss religious themes, is very quick to make the point about “are you following the “gospel”? So, let’s discuss this “gospel” and then share something regarding “present truth”.
The word gospel means “good news,” so the gospel of Christ is the good news of His coming to provide forgiveness of sins for all who will believe (Colossians 1:14; Romans 10:9). Since the beginning of time when the first man sinned, mankind has been under the condemnation of God (Romans 5:12). Because everyone breaks God’s perfect law by committing sin (Romans 3:23), everyone is guilty (Romans 5:18). The punishment for the crime of sin is physical death (Romans 6:23) and then an eternity spent in a place of eternal punishment (Revelation 20:15; Matthew 25:46). This eternal separation from God is also called the “second death” (Revelation 20:14–15).
The fact that all are guilty of sin and condemned to spend eternity in a place of torment is very bad news. But God, because of His love for the world, has made a way for man to be forgiven for their sins (John 3:16). He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to take the sins of man on Himself through death on a cross (1 Peter 2:24). In placing our sin on Christ, God ensured that all who will believe in the name of Jesus will be forgiven (Acts 10:43).
This is the gospel of Jesus Christ, the good news that God provided the way for man to be freed from the penalty of sin (John 14:6: Romans 6:23). But not all people will be saved from hell; only those who place their faith in Jesus will go to heaven when they die (Acts 4:12).
The gospel of Jesus Christ is the best news anyone will ever hear, and what a person does with this news will determine where he or she spends eternity. God is calling you to choose life. Call on the name of the Lord and be saved (Romans 10:13)!
Now, we have established the basis for the Gospel of Christ, which has been established since the foundation of this world. However, there comes an important truth, too, and this is called, “Present Truth”.
Present Truth is simply this: “a belief in truth as appropriate to any given time”.
What most Christians will overlook, not accept or will even try to discuss is what is called, “Present Truth”. Present truth is something which is simply defined, “truth which is presently necessary”. Is the Gospel necessary for salvation? The answer is “yes”. Is Present Truth necessary for salvation? Again, the answer is “yes”. Let’s discuss this topic.
God would not have given both, the “Gospel” and “Present Truth” if it were not relevant for our lives. In Revelation 12, God defined what His last day, “remnant” church would have as characteristics. They would (1) keep the Commandments of God, the Ten Commandments, and (2) have the “spirit of prophecy” or the “testimony of Christ”. It is the “spirit of prophecy” which gives us “present truth” and the understanding of it so we’re able to see how it furthers the “gospel” which saves us.
What is present truth scripturally? It is found in Revelation 14, called the “Three Angel’s Messages”. Did Adam and Eve, when they sinned made aware of the Three Angel’s Messages? The answer is “no”, for it did not suit their time and need. How about Moses and the Israelites? Again the answer is “no”, for it was not important for their time. However, the “Gospel of Christ” was suitable for both Adam and Eve as well as Israel and Moses, and the gospel was definitely understood by them. Let’s fast forward to our time. Is knowing the “present truth” important for our time? The answer is emphatically, IT IS THE TRUTH for our time and definitely supports and becomes a part of the gospel because the ends of the earth falls upon us whereas the other times could not make this claim. I would suggest you read Revelation 14 carefully, prayerfully and learn it. Many have heard parts of it but do not see how it relates to their salvation, and you can be most assured, it will.
The problem with most Christians is whatever they’ve learned as a group, movement, denomination, sect or cult stops with a particular truth or teaching. They’ve refused or have the ability to receive additional light, truth, which may be apparent for their time. Many, such as the “Church of Christ” believe God no longer speaks to man except through His Word, the Bible! This is alarming. They believe, too, that prophets and prophecy ended during the time of Christ, so they cut the cord of connection and cannot progressed further in their religious experience, which is a requirement of the gospel experience. Christ warned us what is to come. These things would not come in His time, nor that of the apostles, but would be present in our time, therefore, you MUST have an understanding of what He predicted then, which would be considered “present truth” for our time because we are living in the “present” and there are particular truths for our time which were not necessary or needed for any other time upon this planet but ours.
Take the Mark of the Beast. We are being warned—today, about it because up until recently there was no message or understanding back in 95 AD when John wrote about it what it would mean. You think John knew as he wrote on the seventh day Sabbath what the mark of the beast was? Many are under the belief the “Lord’s Day” of Revelation 1 was Sunday! Interesting concept, is it not. When Sunday worship is the “mark of the beast” therefore John whether unknowingly or knowingly could not have been in the “spirit” doing any writing on the very day his writing would warn us against! THIS, my friends, is “present truth” and knowing how to apply it properly and definitely for it is by knowing and accepting present truth we are saved BY the gospel of Christ before the end comes.
We can continue to stay in our past where we think it is safe or we can come into the light which is being shed and given to the world NOW.
